Aspects Of Goodness In Hardship

[93] From Malik that Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn Abi Sa’sa said that he heard Sa’id ibn Yasar Abu’l Hubab say that he had heard Abu Hurairah (Radi Allahu Anhu) say, “The Messenger of Allah (Sallalahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) said, ‘Allah afflicts the one (in his health or wealth) for whom He desires good.'”

Al-Muwatta (Yahya’s narration 2/941 hadith no.1816, book 50, chapter 3, hadith no.7), at-Tamhid (13/119) and he said, “This hadith is [Sahih] authentic”, al-Istidhkar: (no.1751)

Transmitted by Bukhari (no.5645) from the hadeeth of Malik

[UNDERSTANDING FROM THE HADITH]
1) A’isha (Radi Allahu Anha) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (Sallalahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) said, “No calamity befalls a Muslim but that Allah expiates some of his sins because of it, even though it were the prick he receives from a thorn.” (Sahih Bukhari no.5640 and Sahih Muslim no.2572)

In one narration the Prophet (Sallalahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) said, “No fatigue, nor disease, nor sorrow, nor sadness, nor hurt, nor distress befalls a Muslim, even if it were the prick he receives from a thorn, but that Allah expiates some of his sins for that.” (Sahih Bukhari no.5641, no.5642 and Sahih Muslim no.2573)

2) Suhaib ar-Rumi (Radi Allahu Anhu) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (Sallalahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) said, “Strange (i.e. lovely) are the ways of a believer for there is good in every affair of his and this is not the case with anyone else except in the case of a believer for if he has an occasion to feel delight, he thanks (Allah), thus there is a good for him in it, and if he gets into trouble and shows resignation (and endures it patiently), there is a good for him in it.” (Sahih Muslim no.2999 [no.7500])

Therefore the humankind should always be thankful and patient whenever doing anything. Allah the Most High says, “…And Allah loves those who are patient” (al-Imran no.146)

3) It is not correct to attribute every difficulty that befalls a believer to be a punishment, sometimes a difficulty is the cause for a believer to have his status elevated.
