عن سفيان بن عيينة {وسلام على عباده الذين اصطفى} قال: هم أصحاب محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم ورضي عنهم [تفسير الثعلبي (٢٠٩٩) وسنده جيد]
Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah said {And peace upon His servants whom He has chosen} [al-Naml: 59] “They are the companions of Muḥammad ﷺ, and may Allāh be pleased with them.” [Tafsīr al-Thaʿlabī (2099); Isnād Jayyid]
وعن الثوري مثله [حلية الأولياء (٧/٧٧) وتفسير الطبري (١٨/ ٩٩) وسندهما جيد]
The same is narrated from Sufyān al-Thawrī [Ḥilyat al-Awliyāʾ (7/77) and Tafsīr al-Ṭabarī (18/99); their Isnāds are Jayyid]
عن عبد الله بن مسعود، قال: إن الله نظر في قلوب العباد، فوجد قلب محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم خير قلوب العباد، فاصطفاه لنفسه، فابتعثه برسالته، ثم نظر في قلوب العباد بعد قلب محمد، فوجد قلوب أصحابه خير قلوب العباد، فجعلهم وزراء نبيه، يقاتلون على دينه، فما رأى المسلمون حسنا، فهو عند الله حسن، وما رأوا سيئا، فهو عند الله سيئ [مسند أحمد (٣٦٠٠) وسنده جيد]
ʿAbdullāh bin Masʿūd said: “Indeed, Allāh looked into the hearts of the servants and found the heart of Muḥammad ﷺ to be the best of the hearts of the servants, so He chose him for Himself and sent him with His message. Then, He looked into the hearts of the servants after the heart of Muḥammad, and He found the hearts of his companions to be the best of the hearts of the servants. So, He made them the successors of His Prophet, fighting for his religion. Thus, what (all) the Muslims see as good, is good with Allāh, and what they see as evil is evil with Allāh.” [Musnad Aḥmad (3600); Isnād Jayyid]
This is very clear that “Allah knows best where He places His message.” [6:124] And that no one was chosen unjustly. It also shows ijmā‘ is a proof in the religion
عن أصحاب رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم أنهم قالوا: يا رسول الله، أخبرنا عن نفسك، فقال: دعوة أبي إبراهيم، وبشرى عيسى، ورأت أمي حين حملت بي أنه خرج منها نور أضاءت له قصور بصرى من أرض الشام، واسترضعت في بني سعد بن بكر، فبينا أنا مع أخ لي في بهم لنا، أتاني رجلان عليهما ثياب بياض، معهما طست من ذهب مملوءة ثلجاً، فأضجعاني، فشقا بطني، ثم استخرجا قلبي فشقاه، فأخرجا منه علقة سوداء، فألقياها، ثم غسلا قلبي وبطني بذاك الثلج، حتى إذا أنقياه، رداه كما كان، ثم قال أحدهما لصاحبه: زنه بعشرة من أمته، فوزنني بعشرة، فوزنتهم، ثم قال: زنه بألف من أمته، فوزنني بألف، فوزنتهم، فقال: دعه عنك، فلو وزنته بأمته لوزنهم [سيرة ابن إسحاق (ص ٥١) وسنده حسن]
The companions of Allāh’s Messenger ﷺ said: “O Allāh’s Messenger, inform us about yourself.” He said: “(I am) the supplication of my father Ibrāhīm [cf. 2:129] and the glad tidings of ʿĪsā [cf. 61:6]. And my mother saw, when she was pregnant with me, that a light came forth from her which illuminated the castles of Buṣrā in the land of Shām. And I was nursed among the Banī Saʿd ibn Bakr. While I was with a brother of mine (from my wet-nurse) among our lambs, two men in white garments came to me, with them was a basin of gold filled with snow. They laid me down and split open my abdomen, then they took out my heart and split it open, and they removed from it a black clot and cast it aside. Then they washed my heart and my abdomen with that snow until they had purified them, (then) they returned it as it was. Then one of them said to his companion: ‘Weigh him against ten from his ummah.’ So he weighed me against ten, and I outweighed them. Then he said: ‘Weigh him against a thousand from his ummah.’ So he weighed me against a thousand, and I outweighed them. Then he said: ‘Leave him be, for if you were to weigh him against his (entire) ummah, he would outweigh them.’” [Sīrah Ibn Isḥāq (p. 51); Isnād Ḥasan]
