Guarding Of The Tongue

Muhammad Ibnu Amr Ibne Alqamah: One Hadeeth. And there is something in the connection (link).

[103] From Malik from Muhammad ibn Amr ibn Alqama from his father from Bilal ibn al-Harith al-Muzani (Radi Allahu Anhu) that the Messenger of Allah (Sallalahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) said, “A man speaks what is pleasing to Allah and he does not suspect that it will have the result that it does, and Allah will write for him His good pleasure for it until the day when he meets Him. And a man speaks what excites the wrath of Allah and he does not suspect that it will have the result that it does, and Allah will write His wrath for him for it until the day when he meets Him.”

Al-Muwatta (Yahya’s narration 2/985 hadith no.1914, book 56, chapter 2, hadith no.5), at-Tamhid (13/49), al-Istidhkar: (no.1850)

Transmitted by an-Nasa’i in al-Kubra (Tuhfat ul-Ashraf: no.2028) and al-Hakim (1/46 hadith no.141) from the hadith of Malik. And the orginal (root) of the hadith has a witness with Bukhari (no.6478) and Muslim (no.2988) and the hadith has another version with Tirmidhi (no.2319) and Ibn Hiban (no.1576) and it’s chain is [Hasan] good.

[UNDERSTANDING FROM THE HADITH]
1) One should always be cautious when performing actions and speaking since one can waste good deeds just by loosing a little bit of focus.

2) Ibn Abdul Bar said, ” The meaning of the words which are ‘pleasing’ (T.N. to Allah) is saying the word of truth in front of an oppressive ruler so that he stops being oppressive and disobedient. The meaning of the words which are ‘not pleasing’ (T.N. to Allah) is supporting the oppression and injustice of an oppressive ruler.”  (at-Tamhid 13/51, the meaning of it has been summarised)

In one narration it is mentioned that, The most virtuous Jihad is to speak the truth in front of an oppressive ruler. (See Sunan Ibn Majah no.4012, and Musnad Ahmad 5/251, 256 and it’s chain is [Hasan] good)

The Messenger of Allah (Sallalahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) said, “When any of you knows and realises the truth then you should not stop yourself from telling the truth due to having fear of the people.”(Sahih Ibn Hiban, al-Ihsan no.278 and it’s chain is [Sahih] authentic)
