An Individual Should Sacrifice The Sacrificial Animal Himself

[145] From Malik from Jafar ibn Muhammed ibn AIi from his father from Jabir ibn Abdullah (Radi Allahu Anhu) that the Messenger of Allah (Sallalahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) sacrificed some of his sacrificial animals himself, and someone other than him sacrificed the rest.

Al-Muwatta (Abi Mus’ab az-Zuhri’s narration (1/534 hadith no.1381)

Transmitted by an-Nasa’i (7/231 hadith no.4424) from the hadith of Malik. And in Yahya Ibn Yahya’s narration (1/394 hadith no.909) “Malik from Ja’far from his father from Ali Ibn Abi Talib” and it is incorrect. See at-Tamhid (2/106) and al-Istidhkar (no.849)

[UNDERSTANDING FROM THE HADITH]
1) It is better and more virtuous for an individual to carry out the sacrifice himself. It is also allowed to appoint someone else to carry out the sacrifice on his behalf.

2) It is allowed to appoint a Wakil.

3) The meaning of “other than him” in the hadith is Ali Ibn Abi Talib (Radi Allahu Anhu) just as it is established from other narrations.
