Combining The Prayers Other Than Because Of Fear And Travelling

Sa’id Ibn Jubair: One hadith

[109] From Malik from Abu az-Zubair al-Makki from Sa’id Ibn Jubair from Abdullah Ibn Abbas (Radi Allahu Anhu) that he said: The Messenger of Allah (Sallalahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) prayed the noon (Zuhr) and afternoon (Asr) prayers together, and the sunset (Magrib) and Isha’ prayers together without being in a state of fear or in a state of travelling.

Al-Muwatta (Yahya’s narration (1/144 hadith no.328, book 9, chapter 1, hadith no.4), at-Tamhid (12/209) and he said,”This hadith has an [Sahih] authentic and established chain” and al-Istidhkar (no.301)

Transmitted by Muslim (no.705) from the hadith of Malik and Abu az-Zubair clarified hearing this hadith from Sa’id Ibn Jubair in it (51/705)

[UNDERSTANDING FROM THE HADITH]
1) Leaving aside a strange group, the scholars have an Ijma that it is not allowed to combine the prayers in the area which you are residing in. See at-Tamhid (12/210)

2) It is allowed to combine prayers during the following circumstances:

Travelling, Hajj, Rain, during a battle against the disbelievers, whilst being in the state of fear, a sharia compliant excuse such as when a severe mass killing (anarchy) is happening and during a severe illness etc.

3) For combining prayers whilst travelling see the previous hadith no.108 and hadith no.199. Additionally see the al-Hadith Magazine Hazro: edition no.52 pg.17

4) For the combining of Dhuhr and Asr during Hajj see Sahih Muslim (no.1218, Darusalam numbering no.2950) and Sahih Bukhari (hadith no.1662)

5) It is allowed to combine the prayers when it is raining. Abdullah Ibn Umar (Radi Allahu Anhu) used to pray with the leaders when they combined the Magrib and Esha prayer together due to rain. (al-Muwatta 1/145 hadith no.329 and its chain is [Sahih] authentic)

  1. So it isn’t permissible to combine due to work related conditions?
