The Manners Of Buying, Selling And Wearing Clothes, Prohibition Of Buying Things Without Seeing It

Ash-Shaikh al-Faqih al-Imam al-‘Alim al-Bari’ Jamaludin Abul Faraj Abdurahman Ibn Salman [1] Ibn Sa’id Ibn Salman [2] al-Bagdadi – it was read to him and I heard it in the year 668 Hijri (that): Abul Yaman Zaid Ibn al-Hasan Ibn Zaid al-Kindi informed us and it was read to him (that): Abu Abdullah al-Husain Ibn Ali Ibn Ahmad [3] al-Muqri informed us (that): Abul Husain Ahmad Ibn Muhamad Ibn Ahmad Ibn an-Naqur informed us (that): Abu Tahir Muhamad Ibn Abdirahman Ibn Al-Abas al-Mukhalis informed us in the year 390 Hijri that: Yahya narrated to me(he said that): Yunus narrated to me (he said that): Abul Ahwas narrated to me (he said that): from Ash’ath Ibn Abi ash-Sha’sha (he said that): from Muhamad Ibn Umair (he said that) from: Abu Huraira (Radi Allahu Anhu): he said, “the Messenger of Allah (Sallalhu Alayhi Wa Sallam) forbade from 2 types of interest and 2 types of clothing:

  1. that a person wears 1 piece of clothing and contains himself in it. Putting one part of it on the shoulders and hides himself in 1 piece of clothing.
  2. and saying throw your piece of clothing to me and i will throw my piece of clothing to you, whilst both of them don’t turn the clothing over and look at it.”

He was born in the year 585 Hijri in Haran. And he died in the month of Sha’ban, in the year 670 Hijri in Damascus.

[1] In the original instead of Salman it is ‘Sulaiman’, which was corrected from looking at the manuscripts

[2] As above [1]

[3] In the manuscript there is no word of ‘Bin’ before al-Muqri

[4] In the original the word is Mankaba, which was corrected from looking at the manuscripts

[GRADING AND REFERENCES] – [SANADAHU DA’IF] (Weak Chain)

This narration is from the chain of Ash’ath Ibn Sulaim Abi ash-Sha’sha and Bukhari has narrated it with the chain of Ash’ath Ibn Abi ash-Sha’sha in at-Tarikh al-Kabir (1/195 narrator no.598). Also an-Nasa’i has narrated it from the chain of Abul Ahwas Salam Ibn Sulaim from Ash’ath Ibn Abi ash-Sha’sha (5/496-497 hadith no.9750)

Imam Nasa’i said, “this hadith is rejected, Muhamad Ibn Umair is unknown” (Tuhfatul Ashraf 10/365 hadith no.14597)

Hafidh Ibn Hajr Asqalani and Hafidh Dhahabi both said about Muhamad Ibn Umair al-Maharabi that he is “Unknown” (Taqrib at-Tahdhib: 6200, Diywan ad-Dua’fa: 3917)

Therefore Ibn Hibban mentioning this narrator in his Kitab at-Thiqat is a mistake and what is correct is that this narrator is unknown.

See hadith no.8 for the biography of the narrator
